How to Update Firmware on a Samsung Hd204ui
Why the time wasn’t taken to update the firmware revision I don’t know, would definitely be helpful.
Samsung F4 it does Non change the firmware number of the drive that tin can be visible by viewing the smart info etc. So is information technology safe to presume that I have firmware that is fine, or should I flash information technology anyway even though this consequence was supposedly fixed months agone?
An F4 dated 2011/7 needs the firmware upgrade, and to run into the version number change you tin can flash to the Japanese version of the firmware:

If that is so, then that is pityful. Heck the new firmware is dated december. of 2010 HAHA. It is a shame, because I love how fast the samsung drives are, and they are very quiet, but they certainly are eaten up with firmware issues, heck fifty-fifty the older f3 1tb drives demand a firmware flash to work properly on the intel chipset controllers. Anyhow I did endeavor last night to flash with the u.s. firmware upgrade, F4EG.exe and information technology would not work and said I did not have the proper drive or some nonsense. I will see if the japanese version will piece of work thanks for your help!

Are you sure this firmware is compatible with the HD204UI/F4EG drives sold in the US? I flashed my 204UI, but I’m still paranoid as it didn’t update firmware number.
Samsung dang well needs to become the number changed on these F4s and the firmware applied before the bulldoze is shipped, and they demand to exist offering more than a dos exe file. I have never in my life heard of flashing a firmware and the number not even updating. You lot never know if the thing took or not. Virtually of u.s. hither are pretty tech savvy, but your average bear tin can’t begin to prepare a thumbdrive to kicking to dos and apply this patch…For sure they need to release a programme that will do information technology right from windows, heck even system bios tin be done that fashion now for years, you tin’t tell me they couldn’t write a app to practice the same for this.
I got my F4 2 weeks ago and it was also manufactured on 07/2011 only I applied the firmware (Usa version) anyhow.
. I don’t know that I will fool with more than samsung drives after this, it is friggin ridiculous
Any drive since December or January should exist updated from Samsung, no need to update yourself.
source?

Are you certain this firmware is compatible with the HD204UI/F4EG drives sold in the US? I flashed my 204UI, but I’g all the same paranoid equally information technology didn’t update firmware number.
I’ve flashed iv United states of america version HD204UI drives with the Japanese firmware update, and they’re all been working for several months now.
At present I’yard moving on to 3TB.
I am using speedfan, which is shows the health of the drive to be good, so I don’t know…
Sorry, no source, just what I’ve read in other forums. I went ahead and flashed all my new drives only to brand sure.
Mine will not wink menstruation for any reason. I have tried to flash in every mode in that location is including ahci, regular ide, and legacy ide. I accept also tried in ii different systems. I am not certain why this is I know other people are saying they are flashing drives still that they go..Raider what manuf. date do yours take? I am going to electronic mail samsung for the heck of information technology and see if they volition carp to answer. I know though from doing some more than research that even people that have flashed still alot of them become the raw write (c8) smart errors increasing, simply I estimate is not a huge business concern unless the threshold, worst or current values modify etc. I mean the drive has a write error, but corrects itself, then I guess it just hurts your speed. It is troubling, but seems to exist a common feature of this bulldoze, fifty-fifty for some people that have rmaed or gotten replacements and had several drives.
Mine were purchased over 6 months or and so, some were made late final year, some from eye of this twelvemonth. All had the same firmware revision, just I flashed them again anyhow earlier use.
Flashing should be easy…. I did mine by booting off a USB drive into FreeDOS. Flashed with the EXE firmware onto the bulldoze (only one continued to my motherboard).
I sent samsung a question about information technology we volition see if they care to respond…to make matters fifty-fifty sadder, when you send a technical question on the F series drives, they don’t even accept the HD204UI as a model of drive you can cull
and so I had to cull a F3 drive just to make it work. I put the proper drive I was asking about in the trunk of the message only who knows if I’ll become a proper answer heh.

This is true. Any bulldoze after Dec is updated. Nosotros’ve talked near this on like NAS forums and stuff. It’s confirmed.
This is true. Any bulldoze afterwards Dec is updated. We’ve talked about this on similar NAS forums and stuff. It’due south confirmed.
Mine is dated 2011.07 and then I am going to go out it alone. I am doing this because Synology’s site says so:
“If your hard drive was manufactured earlier 2010 Dec (could be identified with series number xxxxxxxZ7xxxxx, xxxxxxxZ8xxxxx,xxxxxxxZ9xxxxx,xxxxxxxZAxxxxx, or xxxxxxxZBxxxxx), you lot must upgrade the firmware of this hard drive before the installation. Please consult with Samsung Technical Support (or a computer technician) for farther details with regards to updating the HDD Firmware.”
My series number is xxxxxxxB7xxxxx so I must exist ok and then.
I just got a brand new f4 2tb samsung drive, to put in my htpc, and it plainly has 2011.07 equally the manuf. date, yet the drive says REV. A, and the firmware is yet showing to be the troublesome 1AQ10001 firmware, which equally I understand it can cause problems if a smart device chapters command is issued while the drive is writing in Ahci mode, or in other words NCQ…
So is it safe to assume that I take firmware that is fine, or should I flash it anyhow fifty-fifty though this effect was supposedly stock-still months ago?
The REV. A drives with that manufacturing date had the defective firmware, and the update that will work for your drive and will testify a different firmware version tin can exist downloaded from here:
I just found out nigh this issue. I have a Samsung HD204UI rev A drive dated 2010.12. The links to firmware in this thread are dead and then I went to the Seagate site. It has a page to download files based on a drive model and serial number. Information technology says my series number doesn’t have any available firmware updates but I don’t trust Seagate’due south competence.
Does anyone know how I can REALLY confirm if my drive needs new firmware? And if and so, where can I get the firmware since Seagate won’t provide a link unless they Recall you need it. Preferably a version that also updates the firmware id.
I don’t know when the problem was discovered and when Seagate bought Samsung out so don’t know who to add together to my “never purchase from again” list for Not updating the firmware even years afterward to INCLUDE updating the version number. It speaks volumes about their competence, business for the customer and even pride. /rant
