Z7 firmware update won’t open up

six months ago

I’ve done numerous Nikon firmware updates, so the process is not new to me. But in this case, I downloaded the Z7 firmware update .exe file and clicked on it, and naught happened/happens. I tried running the program as “administrator” and information technology went to the start permission screen and and then nothing happened. The data associated with the filed indicates that information technology is ready to run in “Windows Vista” compatibility style. This seems odd, given how old and out of date Windows Vista is. I am running Windows x on my Dell XPS 17 laptop.

Is anyone else having this problem, or do I demand to do solo troubleshooting here?

Check if in that location was any new folder created. I encountered the same behavior merely then I noticed than information technology silently unpacked firmware file in a newly created binder.

Presumably this is a self-extracting archive, so you could try to open up it with 7zip (or another appropriate awarding).

In the archive you’ll find the file you’ll have to re-create on your memory carte to transfer information technology into the camera.

I had a similar (credible) issue. I already had the NikonZ5 folder from a previous update, and double clicking on the exe just overwrote the previous version in that folder without whatever confirmation or letters.

(Obviously I take a Z5)

The firmware .exe is just a self-extracting .exe. E.G.: When you run “F-Z7-V340W.exe”, it creates a subfolder with the name “Z7Update” with the “Z_7_0340.bin” file inside. Nix else is started. Yous should re-create the “Z_7_0340.bin” file on the memory carte du jour and update in camera. Instructions are on the firmware download page.

Interesting. I have a Z6 and information technology silently unzipped the executable and placed it in the previously created folder (Z6Update) simply did
not
overwrite the previous version.

Mystery solved: the .exe. file self-extracted within the “downloads” folder, but the date on the update file is 10/25/21, non 11/x/21, so it was a bit down the list of recent downloads (I guess I have washed a agglomeration in the past few weeks).

I have updated the firmware successfully; thanks for the help and suggestions.
