Should I be panicking as I turn my EM5 into a dead paperweight?
I don’t know how long the EM-five takes, only I accept done firmware updates for several cameras of unlike brands and 2 lenses over the years. It always takes nearly fifteen-30 seconds or so.
I promise your camera is not bricked. Skillful luck!
By the way, I retrieve I recall reading that the firmware update has a bug ready in information technology that was supposed to fix a firmware update problem. The original firmware has a bug that causes firmware updates to not work or something similar that. I existent grab-22 situation.
psst! anyone wanna purchase a low mileage paperweight EM5?
I Promise I am joking but information technology is however whirring way , cypher on the LCD or EVF I am going to pull the plug soon , time for bed

I hope your photographic camera is not bricked. Practiced luck!
I thought and maybe this is not every camera you can apply your card reader and download to an empty SD bill of fare and then put that in your camera for an update.
Either manner I would recollect you would use an Air conditioning adaptor to do a download?
yep that was my reference to the version of the updater Mac had to be one.04 or afterward – methinks it is even so not perfected
but it looks similar i survived –this time!
thank you Henry
That’southward good news. You sure dodged a bullet this time. I know that sinking feeling in your stomach when you call back your expensive new camera has a big problem.
Ron, I did mine a few days agone and it took a loooong time: so long, that I went and plant a few chores to do but to keep from fretting. It finally notified me that it was completed. My gauge is that the servers that provide the update may elevate somehow during peak demands, but I’grand not geeky enough to know if this is a valid supposition.
I was able to update from 1.0 to 1.1 with the Mac one.04 updater. I had to connect in Storage manner and it took awhile to get to the point of running (perchance 4-v minutes but I didn’t fourth dimension it). Information technology finally got to the bulletin on the photographic camera that tell you non to interrupt information technology. If you don’t become that far probably nothing is done.
I take a Mac with the latest version of Snow Leopard and before I updated my EM-5 I updated the Olympus updater to latest version one.04. I retrieve I read that one must make certain you lot are using that version. My update took around 20 minutes but all was successful. I know when you set there and look it seems similar forever. Bill
I had mine take quite a while. It seemed to be just during the initial download the firmware from the server part, considering I could see the network activeness. During this stage the camera screen is bare which is kind of scary and at that place is no progress bar or indicator on the computer screen, and I think that my camera even went to sleep because it took and then long. One time the firmware is downloaded and the bodily flashing starts, the camera will testify the assertion mark in a triangle symbol, I think that is the critical part where y’all would not want to turn it off and that role only takes a couple minutes. I recollect that their server is but slow at times, and considering in that location is no progress or indication of what it is doing you don’t know if you should quit or the download is stuck or what.
Why Olympus persists with this !@#$ Olympus-software-required server-based firmware update is beyond me. It’s been a source of constant complaints, worries, OS incompatibilities, and accidentially bricked cameras since forever. If they recollect it’s as well complicated for some people to download the update, stick information technology on a carte, and put it in the photographic camera, then they could at least make that procedure a working culling for those of united states of america with more than 2 encephalon cells.
I thought and maybe this is non every camera you can employ your card reader and download to an empty SD bill of fare and so put that in your photographic camera for an update.
No the Olympus are special, y’all can’t just download the updater files. Y’all have to hook the camera.
Either fashion I would think you would apply an Air conditioning adaptor to exercise a download?
I idea and maybe this is not every photographic camera yous can apply your card reader and download to an empty SD carte du jour and so put that in your photographic camera for an update.

Either way I would call up you would use an Ac adaptor to exercise a download?
Or a freshly and fully loaded battery.
Wow that’s kind of lame. Everyone else is okay with a ROM file on your retentivity bill of fare. Is Olympus agape of firmware modfications? It’ll happen anyways if information technology’southward possible…
I freaked out too the first time I updated the firmware on my Olympus photographic camera. The blank screen and all that fourth dimension waiting is but considering the update is being downloaded. Once the update’s on your computer, the camera responds as stated in the instructions, and the firmware update is very quick.
With my other cams, I’ve been able to manually download firmware updates, copy them to an SD bill of fare and then practise the update in photographic camera.
Olympus OM-D E-M5
Olympus PEN Eastward-PM2
Panasonic Lumix One thousand 14mm F2.5 ASPH
Olympus Thou.Zuiko Digital 45mm F1.viii
Panasonic Lumix G Vario 45-150mm F4-five.6 ASPH Mega OIS
I started the updates some xx minutes or and so ago got a non screen bulletin proverb information technology is updating the firmware just zippo indicating progress , how far , naught , very worrying as ane does non know whether it is working or non really with no sort of feed back ?
Anyone else done this and got an idea how big the download is etc ?
I don’t know how large the download is, probably not and then large. Yet, the connection may accept a long time. Each fourth dimension I’ve updated my Pens, I have underwent through the kind of anxiousness you are experiencing, with merely that black screen displayed for a long time. Each time I have resisted the need to touch a push on the camera, but in the end everything went well. The info screen telling the updating was starting was displayed only for a few seconds, most not long plenty to read it. so the only advise is exist patient !
Notwithstanding I accept read that there was a problem with one of the updating program not working correctly. Just make sure that you have the concluding version of the updating software !

Yes information technology makes everyone grumpy ! I don’t know why they go far and so, because some are jump to get connection problems, or the Olympus servers may go down or whatever.
May be they fear that people could download the incorrect firmware ? But that would be easy to bank check earlier starting the firmware update.
