Dji Mavic 2 Firmware Update Takes Forever

Dji Mavic 2 Firmware Update Takes Forever

I fly an
Air 2
and when my iPad mini updates it’s operating organisation it automatically updates my Apps, incl. the DJI Fly app. And so I am now running ver. 1.4.iv but I have not updated the firmware since ver. 01.03.0340. Most of the updates seem to exist directed at the
Mini 2
or
Air2s
and also my bird flies great at this time so I think why mess with information technology. My question is this, Will this grab up to me eventually or tin I keep doing this forever?

The simply disadvantage to firmware updates is that in that location are some features that you may have now ( for instance a choice to charge your phone) …that disappears without explanation….DJI does become your Email address when y’all are signing up for the App…they should at least send an electronic mail with details of the upgrade, and so you now know what to expect

Every fourth dimension you update firmware, in that location’s a slight chance of bricking your drone. And the risk is on you lot, not on DJI.

Too, most firmware updates are for the benefit of DJI, not yours. All the “security updates” are not to make your drone safer, but to make information technology harder to change. So what they really practice is patching the routes which you could use to root your drone and take full control of it. For most platforms, only a few initial updates set ‘real’ bugs, the rest is just to expand NFZs, brand more ways of disabling the drone remotely, prevent y’all from modifying its software or reject third party batteries.

Unless y’all’ve seen a FW update notes, and there’s a functionality you need – do not update.
Last time I updated a drone was to make it uniform with
goggles
– there was a reason, so I updated.

EDIT:

Here’southward a post where I listed a few specific cases of undesired FW updates in Phantoms:

At that place was more – like firmware `P3X_FW_V01.eleven.0020` which made some drones claim at that place is hardware malfunction, and by articulate coincidence this was the last FW update for Phantom 3 Pro platform. Definitely not planned obsolescence.

For Mavics – I take less experience. But I do know for Mavic Pro, some FW updates were released only to change the compromised encryption keys – to go far harder to make firmware modifications and repairs.

Most upgrades are for fixing bugs identified by users in previous versions. Sometimes new features are added also.

DJI has no reason to upgrade for their benefit. The do good to them is to please users with the improvements in the software.

The downside is that by opening up the code to improve it, DJI may inadvertently interruption something that was working. This is an intrinsic trouble with all software development including all PCs and Macs.

Join the real world and make up one’s mind how much adventure you want to take for what benefits.

And so there is something in the FAA dogma that says proper maintenance of aircraft includes firmware updates??

When I bought my Mavic Pro, I had it for two years and never updated a thing. Information technology worked perfectly the entire time. I sold it and bought the
Mavic ii Pro
and left it too, with the firmware information technology arrived with, never had an consequence at all.

Then I had a gimbal problem and sent it to DJI for repair and they replaced the whole drone. I had to do all the updates when it arrived, which I did with the assist of DJI tech support. I found them to be very good people and extremely helpful.

I had an issue with the replacement drone regarding the thirty degree up camera position. Information technology would motility up and concur while on the tabular array in the house, however, the moment I took information technology flying and tried this, it would immediately snap back from the 30 degree up position while hovering and once again as I very slowly started to fly forward, or backward.

I went through a bunch of settings with DJI tech back up once again and yet no luck. They asked for me to return it and they sent another replacement. Again I had to go through all the latest updates with
SC
and the drone and I withal have this problem. A friend who never changed his firmware from the time of purchase of his
M2P
does not feel what my trouble is. He can fix his 30 degrees up in a hover and wing forwards or backward and at that place is no change in the photographic camera’s gimbal position, it stays where he put it, at the 30 degrees up point, just like my original
M2P
would exercise.

Maybe it is just a coincidence but that is my experience. The option is yours, but I feel that if information technology works and does what I need, I go out well enough lonely.

I think you can forget the anti charging your phone. Conversation between DJI and myself.
Hello in that location. Good day and thank you for reaching out. I am distressing to say that the said telephone charging on the said mobile device tin not be turned off. The reason why your mobile device ( Tripltek ) is discharging your DJI remote controller. This is because the Android mobile device needs on-going 500ma to maintain the USB connexion, so there is no option for the Android device to disable the charging mode, it is related to the android system and the communication protocol. This is regulated past the Android Open Accompaniment ( AOA ). Give thanks y’all.

I tin can only say that i of my “update” experiences is anything but expert! I have a
Mavic Pro ii. Everything was great…….until…….I got a notice on the
smart controller
about inconsistent firmware and let an update…………actually bad idea!!!!!! I lost the hyperlapse and APSE icons in camera mode. I have tried to refresh the firmware and the Windows assistant awarding fails. I’1000 working with the DJI tech back up to fix the issue, but so far no become. I may never get these icons back. Perchance when the
smart controller
shows a newer software version it may fix the problem, did i time before. I am actually gun shy at present about these omnipotent updates.

I flew my
Mavic 2 Pro
for over a year with that inconsistent firm ware message popping upwardly each time, on the
SC. Never had an upshot.

Should a trouble arise, say a UAS falls on a person injuring him or her badly, that UAS volition be inspected CLOSELY for inconsistencies.

Are the Us public services really so thorough in such analyses? Last time I reported a scam to polish police force, they were amazed when I showed them how to get sender IP address from email headers. Basic stuff.

Even if the case was loftier-contour, DJI will non provide sources of the firmware to show or disprove whether the inconsistency could have affect on rubber.

Even if the case was high-contour, DJI will not provide sources of the firmware to prove or disprove whether the inconsistency could take impact on rubber.

This is especially truthful if an inconsistency analysis could prove DJI liable

Just remember the ‘Movie is responsible for all phases and elements of a flight’. Which includes the proper maintenance and updating of all software and firmware necessary for the safe functioning of an aircraft. And when a trouble(s) arise- it will ALL come back to the Motion picture. Should a problem arise, say a UAS falls on a person injuring him or her badly, that UAS volition be inspected CLOSELY for inconsistencies. Then the fun begins….

If information technology was working for years and then there is no chance of that changing. Generally, with software, if it works, information technology keeps working. If at that place is a bug in there, it will soon exist axiomatic. If you did an update and a drone fell on someone, do you really think DJI volition be helping you to bear witness that information technology was their error and not yours?

Like a few, I have not updated anything in over 3 years on my Mavic Gen I.
Running the firmware flashed from and at the factory.
And guess what?
I have had null issues.

Period.
I did non fall for the “baited” updates with the “new flight modes”…
I learned to fly them manually……
